Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Patroness of the Americas

She appeared on Dec. 9, 1531 to Juan Diego.

It is remarkable that, 39 years after the discovery of America, Mary would appear to offer her help
and intercession. She knew that in the future her help would be needed. She appeared to one very poor, an Indian, who had been baptized only 6 years before. She appeared to someone seemingly inadequate for her task. She left us a miraculous sign, the imprinted cloak, that is preserved today after 458 years.
