ST. MARTIN DE PORRES ECUMENICAL COMMITTEE

The primary work of the Ecumenical Committee is to promote understanding of and mutual respect between our parishioners and all other Christian communities in our area. Through prayer, dialogue and social gatherings, we will seek to respond to Jesus’ prayer that all of His disciples may be one in faith, love and hope. Every year the work of the Committee culminates in the annual Week Of Prayer For Christian Unity. Recently, the Committee has held several joint meetings with members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and other local Christian clergy It is our hope that these joint meetings will provide a forum for understanding and also for the planning of future ecumenical events.

The Committee will also support the work of the Dutchess County Interfaith Council (DCIC) by publicizing its events and, on occasion, hosting some of its activities. In this way, we can help our parishioners to deepen understanding and respect of other faith traditions.

At present, the members of the Committee represent the clergy, various committees of the parish, the Knights of Columbus, the Vicariate Council, the DCIC , local area colleges and other interested parishioners.
