MUSIC MINISTRY NOTES
The Music Ministry is an opportunity to pray twice, improve musicianship, make lasting friendships, and return to God the talents He has bestowed to us.
THE YOUTH CHOIR is open to all boys and girls grades 1-5 who are registered in St. Martin de Porres parish. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 PM in church. We have a great time singing together each week at rehearsals and at the 9:30 am Family Liturgy. We sing on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday as well as at the Children’s Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. We sing Christmas Carols at Barnes and Noble Day, and have a great end of the year party.

THE TEEN CHOIR is open to ALL teens, Grades 6-12+. We sing the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. Rehearsals are from 3:30 - 4:50 followed by the 5:00 PM mass. We sing for the 6:30 PM on Christmas Eve Mass. Teens who are members of a school band or orchestra are welcome to play their instrument with us! Please join us twice a month for friendship, fun and great music! (Consider the choir for your confirmation or community service hours!!!!)
Parish Choir
THE PARISH CHOIR is open to parishioners from college age to adult. Rehearsals begin Wed., Sept. 5th and continue every Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 PM in the back room of the Nativity Center. We sing weekly at the 11:30 mass. A love of praising God in song and a musical voice are the only requirements!
Cantors
The cantors provide music leadership to our parish during the weekend Saturday/Sunday Masses as well as feast and holy days. The cantor is not a soloist that the congregation should just listen to without participating. He/she leads the congregation in worship providing vocal strength and knowledge of the liturgy. The cantor encourages the congregation to sing. An audition is required to cantor. The ability to read music is also required to cantor. We have joint cantor rehearsals sporadically throughout the year.
Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists are welcome to join any of our three choirs. The knowledge of music theory and performance experience is required.
The Christmas music schedule is as follows:
Christmas concert beginning at 9:30 PM.
